Hi Guys,

January 2012 is just around the corner! I always love new year and it is not only because of the celebration but it is a new page of my life. a new start. It actually help me to keep track of what I want to do.Though, I never stick to one religiously. This year, the resolution was to go home from work before 6pm (and be at work by 7.45am). I don't do it all the time, but having it as a resolution reminds me what my priorities are. I think having that resolution led me to a happier balanced life.

So 2012, what's my plan? Earlier this week, a colleague asked me that question, and to be honest I haven't thought of it and had no clue what my plan will be in 2012. So, after a week I realised that I actually do have a plan at the back of my mind, it has been there all along. Next year this is what I hope to do:

1. Go to the gym 3 times a week (incl. 2 spinning classes).
2. Make my family tree with at least 4 generations before me.
3. Realising my dream wedding without a wedding planner.
4. Be better than this year at work, in all aspect (punctuality, communication, efficiency, productivity) and improve performance by one grade.
5. To still leave work before 6pm.
6. Get a 25 BMI by August. That means I have to be 55kg by August.
7. The fun part, to love my family, my fiance, my bestfriends, my colleagues and friends even more!
8. Say a simple thank you after getting a compliment instead of being awkward (I'm embarassed to say that I can't take a compliment tsk tsk tsk)

Other than number 6, I think my plan is do-able, right? No. 6 will take commitment and determination. That should be an added bonus. hehe.

I miss Dubai

Owh I miss Dubai! The Kain (so so cheap). I borong these kains last december. The Belly Dancing. The Malls. The grilled Kambing served on a huge tray (not plate) of rice. The real fruits shisha bong. Dubai is a very underestimated vacation destination. Ok, must make it a point to go there soon.

I can't go to sleep. Why? The consequence of drinking plenty of water as sahur. Now, I can't stop going to the loo! I feel like M&M Peanuts now. How I wish Brunei have a four story M&M store, like the one in London. That would be lovely.

Life is short

Yesterday was a wake up call. A colleague of my fiance's passed away due to a heart attack. Apparently, he was fit and cycles a lot.

It makes me wonder. When you die, all these materialistics things doesnt really matter. My car. My bags. My shoes. My cats. My family. My Work. At the end of the day, all that matters is preparation for akhirat. It doesn't matter what I earn. It doesn't matter what I have. a mansion. a clerk. a begger. a king. a princess. As long as it is enough. Enough for us to pray. to ibadat. comfortably.

Life is short. Do what you love cos you may never know when everything is taken away from you. Be good to others. Be kind to others. Without expecting anything in returns. Because Allah is fair. There will always be a blessing in disguise. There is always a reason for everything. It's in our Qada' and Qadar. It's just fate.

Syukur that I have been given all this and alhamdulillah for everything that Allah has provided me.

I seriously need to leave for my flight. Haha. Ciao ma homies!

Mixed Feelings.

I have mixed feelings. It has been a while since I have a proper long holiday. The last time was in February for a week. I am glad that my leave was approved and holiday starts today baby!

But,it has been a while since I am away from work. I am having mixed feelings. What if there are unfinished task that I am not aware of?

Hmmm...

SO, I am still having mixed feelings about my leave. Gosh, I am rambling.

On a brighter note, I am off for London tonight. I can't wait to try all the choos and louboutins in selfridges. I can't wait to see what their window display will be. Bargain hunting in Bicester Village.

Last holiday was Universal. This time I am targeting - wicked, Legoland (yes, legoland. I still love those blocks) and enjoying liverpool with my sister.

Ok I lost my mojo to blog! Booooo.

By the way, Internet at home is back. Woot Woot.

Alhamdulillah, the engagement went out well. It initially rain-ed. But, I think it turned out better than I expected.

And no, I did not get my Tiffany Legacy Cushion Cut Ring. But, that was my inspiration. :) I love every bit of it.

One down. Now, Let the planning begin. Hantaran? Jemputan? Flowers? Dress? Cake? Souveniers? Hall? THIS IS SO EXCITING!

Then, I finally found it at Le Apple! Owhhh wow. I am so so happy. Less worry for the day. I am happy that each day passes by, Friday will might just be the engagement day that I have always wanted.

Everyone has a touchscreen phone.

Everyone has a phone with a whatapp. And you can literally tell your entire life to a person without being with him/her. Ok. My boyfriend doesn't have a phone that can download Whatsapp. He thinks he doesn't need a new phone. He just needs new exhausts, new air cleaner, new rims and tyres!. He's a motorsport junkie. So, his car is his second baby (after me *wink*). Which by the way is an expensive hobby. Honestly, one set of rims is equivalent to 10 pairs of classic Jimmy Choos!

Anyway, back to the phone. It's hard. Or I'm just being spoilt. But I can't really share as many things as I share with my sister (who has WhatsApp) on the other side of the globe.

So, after a lot persuasion, I am buying him a phone. He want's to buy it on his own. But, this is the least that I can do. Which by the way will be his balasan for our engagement this Friday. This will be a very exciting event toour 11 year relationship. Relationship Upgrade. LOL.

A cousin's wedding in Kuala Belait. It was simple and pretty.

There's that stage in life when you feel everyone around you is getting married and having babies. Have I grown up? How will I ever know whether I can take care of a person when I barely have time for myself. Something for me to ponder...

Landed in Hong Kong

It was my first time in Hong Kong! And no, i DID NOT go to Disneyland. I still want to go there, so so badly, no matter how small or smelly it is (that's what I heard).

Stayed at Park Lane Hotel, Causeway Bay. AND! We were very lucky to be upgraded from a deluxe room to a suite. Alhamdulillah. And as usual, it is obligatory for me to take pictures of my hotel room (you may never know when you'll need inspiration to renovate your house).

The bed is in the middle. There were two TVs.

It's not that big. But, I LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

After a very long consideration, I finally (decided to depart with my money and) got myself a(n) (super expensive, it's ridiculous) iPhone4! YAY! With the BlackBerry out, I really didn't know what to choose. Either a lump sum amount for the iPhone, or BlackBerry, something cheaper with a monthly fee.

But, I love games! (I'm hooked to pottery now.) So, I decided iPhone it is.

Post-purchase: It's so hard now! My previous phone was $200. And if it drops, i don't mind. If there are scratches, I don't mind. If it is malfunctioning, I don't mind. And now, I spent 1000+ of my hard earned money on a phone! Therefore, it's an additional responsibility for me. But, I have to highlight that I LOVE IT SO MUCH. SO SO MUCH.

On another note: Im watching ABC now, from my hotel room, it's about Justin Bieber, he's 16 and successful. I want to be 16 again, so I can start again and be a millionaire.

You should have fun and love what you do, if you don't love it, why do it? As simple as that.

New Year in Mangrove Paradise

In the last few new years, we celebrated one of my uncle's birthday which is on the 1st day of the year, staying at hotels in Brunei. Haha. Something different. So this year we all stayed at Mangrove Paradise. We rented a few chalets (on stilts along the banks of brunei river) which are next to each other and had food satays, kerupok and we went fishing! And we caught a few (small) fish! Brother had a hook stuck on his feet. There was blood. But, nothing major.

Anyway, after the blood is gone, we enjoyed the fireworks. So much fun! Fireworks were from everywhere, from the kampongs across the river and from the boat.

Anyway, our room was nice. A good choice of wallpaper. But, the toilet is quite small. But for $80 a night. One shan't complain. Owh, it comes with breakfast. The restaurant has a beautiful view. I was actually impressed. Very relaxing. Away from the Hoo Ha of the world. *drama queen*.

I should be rating this hotel properly. But, you know what, you should try it yourself? I mean how often do you fish from your room's balcony? A great start to 2011 for me.

Staying in the Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur

After almost one year working, I finally had time to go for a quick getaway with my friends. And this time, when I say quick, it's literally a weekend including travelling. Luckily, Ritz was just the opposite of Pavilion (sp?), this big shopping centre in KL! The food court is amazing! With a teriyaki place, this place with succulent and delicious honey ribs, a chain called Tony Romas, *slurp*, Nandos, Beard Papa's and so much more...

Anyway, I was very happy with our stay at Ritz. It's not often you get to sleep in one of the most comfortable bed ever!

Hai guys,

Assalamualaikum Everybody. It has been a month since I blog. Not only because of the time but internet at home is acting up. I got a new modem from e-speed (for $65) and dad got a new apple router (for -apparently-a-lot-of-money cos he can't stop nagging/bragging), YET it is still not working.

Okay. Anyhoots, I am at changi airport now Terminal 3, en route to San Francisco baby! I am excited. It's for work and I am so sure I don't have time to go sightseeing, but sometimes the trip from the airport to the hotel is more than perfect.

I just got back from Hong Kong yesterday. It was only a 30hours trip. The pollution. I'm trying to figure out how to transfer the pictures i took from my phone to this laptop. Sometimes, no most of the time, technology baffles me.

It feels good to be home from my exam. My exam is done. DONE. Well, for now. As per usual, after a trip away from the ol' office, work has drowned me once again. Although, today is better. Phewh. Survived Monday.

This is what I remember about those list:

Before I die:

To this place that I want to go so badly. Couldn't afford it as a student. Not gonna tell.

Go to Brasil!

Go to Machu Pichu!

Go to Borobodur!

The nile river!

The great wall!

The pyramids!

Arctic Circle!

I just want to travel the woooooooooooooooorld! I should work at discovery channel or national geographic and stop wasting my time dreaming.

Before I turn 25 (that's in 6 months):

To be good at what I do

To be a more confident swimmer.

To be fit (able to Jog for 10km straight).

To have a good handicap (Golf).

To play the piano.

To start my own fashion business.

Pass level 1 CFA (amin)

Before I turn 30:

To be a millionaire. (<-- serious that was in my list. and no, i don't think this is ridiculous. If you have a good plan, anything is possible)

To be a CFA charterholder

To have a loving family. Children that get to see their grandparents everyday! Never had that, nenek is so far away.

To be a good cook.

To have a business that I love doing.

You know what. I will dream again tomorrow. I have a deadline tomorrow. Back to work!

Anyway, yesterday we celebrated the birthdays of two girls that I know for more than 10 years. From an impromptu text to the adrenaline rush in decorating the room. Happy Birthday to the two of you. May all your wish come true and to always be surrounded by your loved ones.

Deadlines

Hi guys.

Like any working middle class person, deadlines are very common in our life. Well, FOR ME!Be it for work, be it sewing beads for customers, personal or family matters (mum - "lai, sudah kau buatkan borang mama" or with dad - "apanya orang workshop? spare part cemana? ada sudah? ada kau betanya di ejen").

Ahh. Dead.lines. If you don't do it, you will die! DIE! Anyway, I have a deadline due this monday. Minutes of meeting. Not a big fan, trying to string a sentence and sounding prefessional. Ish. But, anyway, I think I am on track. Then, I got curious. Am I doing it effectively?

This is what I found:

1. Set Expectations

Underpromise and Overdeliver! Owh yeah, if there's one thing that I learn after almost one year of working it's to underpromise and overdeliver. I mean it is true, why promise something before it is done. You don't really know what's gonna happen, right? So, let me see, i set the deadline to Monday. I should get it done by today right? =S

2. Prioritise Your Work

I think if I will prioritise better with a chopard on my wrist. Or maybe I should prioritise my work and make chopard as my motivation. Yes? No?

I think I have a problem with this. I want to do everything at the same time. This just basically mean, do one thing at a time. step by step. If a work is overwhelming, split it in small easy tasks, and your job will be done in no time. In fact, start with the tasks that you find the easiest. Never be overwhelmed by work. That just shows that you have bitten more than you can chew. big NO NO!

3. Keep Track of Dates and Occasions

It helps you to be on top of things. Sometimes, personal time clashes with work schedule and you don't even realise it, until, in my case, mum calls. =S So by having Smythson of Bond Street Leather Organiser and an iPhone 4 with a bright pink casing, this issue can be sorted. (HAHA. Fine, i just want these two things. They're so pretty)

4. Analysing your accomplishments everyday

Well, I dont really do this. How do you do it anyway. Altho, I always note down the mistakes that I have done on post-its, so i won't do it again. Altho I dont knw where they are, now. Heh. I love love love love post its. I think I cannot live without post its. It's in different size, shape and colour! Other than it's practicality, it gives colour to your boring working desks! more like a decoration!

5. Try to work just 5 days a week

I agree! Because if I think that I can do work on fridays or sundays, I will start procrastinate! And, lambat lagi siap.

Btw, I am blogging now not because I am procrastinating. It's lunch time. And I had breakfast. Trying to shed the pounds!

Kate Middleton's Issa Jersey Dress

I don't really follow news on royal weddings. But, I can't help but notice the wrap worn by Britain's princess-to-be, Kate Middleton. on the main page of Yahoo!

Before I say anything, just look at the wrap. Ignore the hideous engagement ring, just stare at the blue dress. Just do as I say. Shhh~ Just. look. at. it.

IT'S MESMERISING! I bet I will look fabulous in it. Yes, I am that confident. Because it is made from this special fabric. You see, that's the best thing about UK Fashion! British designers/ even the highstreet brands very often use a fabric called 'Jersey'.

Jersey is basically a stretchy fabric that to be crude, hugs the right part of your body. I think every girl should have one. Very flattering. It works wonderful for draping or dresses which hugs your body. A pain to sew. *shivers* Do not attempt to make one without a(n) (expert) supervision. Just like that blue dress. Pretty. And the details. The belt details. How it is 'flowy' yet not frumpy.

This gorgeous wrap is by ISSA London. It reminds me of the catwalk show I saw early last year. Ahhh. Good times. ISSA London was one of the designer that took part. I honestly don't remember which one it was. =S.

Anyway, according to stylebop.com, it's EUR $398! :) Price is acceptable. Still mencekik leher. But, reasonable. Well, relatively reasonable. It's not as expensive as a EUR $10 000 Euro Dior wrap dress. Heh.

Anyway, it makes me wonder whether there's a tailor in Brunei who can make this? Anybody? Any fashion students? *call me* You know what. Next holiday. I'm gonna sit by my sewing table (and blow the dust off my sewing machine) and make a lovely curve-hugging wrap! Or I can just click buy now.

The Weekend of Your Life

How much is enough? And How much is too much?

A wedding should always be based on our budget and not a budget that is based on our dream wedding. And the question I am still asking myself, over and over again, is how much should mine be? Smart brides plan early! Pfft. Sakit kepala adalah. And, right now, with the work, studying that I have to do, I can't afford a headache.

Anyhoots, Lucky enough quite a handful of my friends just got married recently and are still in the planning stages of their wedding. So I asked around. Doing my own research. and guess what. their budget range from $50 000 to $100 000. KILL ME NOW! And it's not really a wedding dress custom made by Vera Wang, a limited edition jimmy choo and a bedroom with a walk in closet! Aiyayai!

Why does it have to be so expensive? I thought a wedding is supposed to be something memorable to you not memorable to your bank account. It seems like blowing $100 000 for the weekend. Is it worth it? I rather buy a house for us with it and get married in a mosque. But, that does not matter. It's not how it is. In fact, people often say, as the wedding come closer, you want more things, and it doesn't matter what you initially plan. Totally understand it, you would want the best you can have for the wedding. but spending thousands. Scary.

But, am i ready? How do you know when you are ready? In terms of the wedding, I dont think I can go through it as yet. Mentally, Physically nor Financially. Mentally because I don't have the energy and time . Physically because I need to lose 10kg - really- instructed by my GP and I want to look good in a corset. and Financially - wedding fund is still in the 4 digits i.e. a long way to go baybehh (I blame MAC, MNG and Prada).

On the other hand, being with the one you care the most the whole time. To cook for them. Explore new dishes! To care for them. watch a movie together without going to the cinema. play guitar hero until dusk. wait, do people still play guitar hero? Ahhh...

Hi Guys,

Went to this hotel for a reception (more like a cocktail thing) in DC last week. This place is called The Mansion on O Street *google it*. It is such an awesome place. I suck in explaining so I will not bother describing the details of the hotel. But, basically it has numerous hidden doors, dozens of crazy huge ass chandeliers in every room, art work all over the walls, floor, console table and such. And guess what, all proceeds/revenue is for charity! Or something along that line, I was

not really listening cos I was busy counting the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.

And, the coolest part is, we were allowed to explore the hotel and took a peek into the themed rooms. This is by far my favourite! I just have to share it with you. LOOK AT THE CURTAINS. *to die for*

Hi Guys,

Hope your Raya has been fabulous. I was in DC for about 6 days last week. I know! I miss all the awesome openhouses! BOO! To think that Hari Raya only happens setahun sekali and I missed Singapore F1. Have been wanting to go for ages.

But on the brighter side, MAC has released their new Venomous Villain range exactly 1 day before we left! So I grabbed a few.

PS: Shopping in US is cheap cheap cheap. But, the tax (not incl. in the price tag) is kinda annoying. Might not be much for a single item transaction but damn it pricey when you buy a lot (kiriman urang)

As usual, every year, I couldn't wait for the Ramadan/Aidilfitri issue of Nona Magazine. Their baju kurung designs and beadworks are jaw-dropping!

Here are some that caught my attention which makes me wish I have a personal tailor at one's expense!

Observe the sleeves. I love the cape baju kurung. SO DRAMATIC. Very Cruela De Vil.

V-Neck, slimming. Very common for tunics.

I love the sleeves and compensated by a tight-fitted body.

I like how the slit is done to only the chiffon and not the lining. and pointed at the front. very slimming.

layered! this is a refreshing makeover to the old layered baju kurung. black on plain fabric. lovely.

Darn. should've gotten more 3 toned chiffon.

Have you realised how it has become a trend in Brunei for burger vendors to make their own beef/chicken patties?

Today, I tried AHAD's. My god, dari last year sudah ku tau. But this year barutah kan merasa. Good god me! There were mixed review about it. It was in a new location (good news: on the way home from work :D) Around the Jln Tutong Kilanas area. It was pretty popular.

They also make their own sauce.

But, i still prefer the good ol' mayo and chili sos or Jollibee's pink burger sauce. Now, I feel like having Jollibee's cheeseburger.

Pre-Raya Love

Weekend Holiday!

Atlast, the three days holiday that I have been looking forward to. I am currently beading one of the customer's baju. I love beading so much! I can't believe I miss it this much.

and...

The house smells like a bakery shop. Love it! If only I have a tailoring shop and bakery shop next to each other. Maybe in 10 years time. I'm still growing for my wedding fund.

Anyhoots, during her summer holiday, my sister tend to bake bake bake baaaaake saja. Usually for friends, friend's relatives, relatives or any occasions di masjid, mum's office, sedekah neighbours. But this year, she is doing the full swing and accepting orders for Sungkai and Raya! I am so proud of her! My sister has some orders for her cake balls and kek batik Vico. I love it. I love the taste and I love the smell it makes to the house! Smells like Raya!

Why can't tailors open at night, fridays AND sunday?

This year, all my raya baju will be from Al-Jauharah Boutique (it's above the older CA Mohammad in Gadong). I KNOW! omg. All my baju raya is sent to ONE tailor. A risky decision. But i don't really have a choice! I was too late. Cross my fingers, hope they won't spoil my bajus. all four of them. GAH.

Bought more kain, but there are no tailors who are willing to sew it by RAYA! And mind you this was two weeks before Ramadhan. Tried: Hokko, Lauren, Anyati's, Voir. *sigh* Pooop.

Unless, I have one week off, and I can make my own baju. Hah. Yeah right. A week off is still a luxury that I can't afford right now.

Like every year,

One month before puasa I accept orders for Raya. Trust me if only I can do this full time, 365 days a year I would. But, I am employed and as my boss says, there is only 24 hours in a day. Well, he got that right. I have the coolest bosses ever. They are funny, rational and they make good decisions. they know what they want. So, we (the subordinates) don't end up going in circles.

Alhamdulillah, I was invited to go to padang this year for HM's 64th birthday with a few of my colleagues. For the first time! So bare with me. (HAPPY BIRTHDAY Your Majesty! What are the chances for HM to read this). And we received the invitation only a week before the day! And yes, being a normal girl, I panicked, my colleagues pun panicked. Some went straight away (after work) to 1st Metro and some got their laces from Nazmi.

I had plain black kain and top that i often use for work (match it with a patterned top/skirt) and no I am not a lawyer, I don't have the capacity to be a lawyer. I can only read one paragraph at a time. If numbers, maybe I can. As long as there's excel. Heh. My point is! I don't wear plain blacks to work. But It's important to have plain blacks in your closet (be it pants, t-shirt, tudong, top, tresses etc) . Black is a must have, not a colour. And this applies to eye shadow too.

So, with only 1 week to spare. 1st thing in my head was lace ber meter from HOKKO or this shop di serusop besides Secret Recipe (yet to know the name but I love the shop!). So I went to HOKKO. The black laces (cost around $10 per meter) were pretty. But, somehow, typical. Besides I was planning to do something different.

After a good half an hour, I got 2 meters of this black fringe ($1.50/m only) very cabaret style . I sew it on the bottom of my baju yet not at the end and design some flowers with beads (ofcourse) to cover it and sprinkle some Swarovski Crystal above it. Voila! I have always wanted to have fringe at the end of my baju kurung. And I am glad I did it.

PS: Don't you get starstruck whenever HM is in the same place as you. I'm 24 and I still feel the Heebeejeebees. Peace Out.

Don't you just love fridays. I mean, hellooooo free time. Fridays are usually a pampering day. But today is different ! I went to HOKKO. It has been AGES! I miss it so dearly. Even though i previously thought it is extortion.

And guess what I got, laces. I have always thought that laces are quite tacky for baju kurung. Because when it doesnt fits it reminds me of lapik meja dulu dulu. haha. I got one in purple (apparently the latest one) and a brown one. They cost around $10 per meter. and i dont really need a lot so it was not really an extortion. And they packed it in this cute organza drawstring bag (pic above). Cute kan?

One thing that i love about HOKKO is the baju kurung designs (manik and cutting) on the mannequin (sp?). OMG. If you don't have any idea what your baju raya will be...RUN TO HOKKO NOW... there's one in orange (plain kain), just on the right of the entrance in kiarong. GORGEOUS. i just stood there staring at it. I KNOW that will be the design for my baju raya. I just know! there was chemistry. Ill do a sketch of it soon. :D Just to prove my point.

I have a dilemma. I am considering an investment. And no, its not a term deposit or anything that substantial. altho, I might do that this year. things to do in 2010. you know, saving untuk kawin. woot woot. I still want that GBP 9k Tiffany & Co Legacy Engagement Ring. but, Can't I buy it for myself? I feel it's evil to ask my future husband to get it for me. (I'm kidding!)

Anyway, enough of that nonsense, the investment that I am talking about is on my next handbag. Yes, I don't just buy designer bags on impulse, okay? I think about it, I think real hard, even too hard (apparently), weigh the pros and cons. Just like traditional investments. It needs to be analysed, what potential benefit will I get, what are the opportunity costs if I choose this investment (in this case, a handbag) and not the other. Just like buying a car. OMG, don't get me started about buying cars. let's save that for another day. *stress* Anyway, bags. The last thing I want is to have, why-did-i-buy-this-bag moment. cannot have regrets.

I always thought my first bag (after i work) would be a Prada or a Chanel flap bag. But, let's face it, I don't want to bid farewell $4000 of my hard-earned moolah in the first few months just for a chanel!! not yet. So, I have decided (yes yes dgr saja tia cerita ku ani), to start my handbag portfolio in peringkat (phases or levels, whatever you think makes sense). Instead of going full out on a bag, like a $4000 bag! I am gonna start based on the handbag's price in ascending order. So, for example, for now it will just be $500 on a bag, then next time maybe $750, then the next time $1000 etc etc. So by the time i am 40, I might be considering the gazillion dollars 35cm Crocodile skin Birkin. (Lol!). Dui, By then they will have something like, Hermes Gisele or Hermes Heidi or sumthing. No harm in wishful thinking, you may never know, it might come true. Like how every second, I imagine there is a red hot Ferrari in my garage. No harm. no harm at all. *cuckoo~*

Anyway, sekalinya kan, I am considering a Neverfull in Monogram (not planning to get the Damier -checkered- one, it is more modern, but a handful of people have it).

fine Fine FINE! I know every person has Neverfull, I know you can get the immitation at any expo in Brunei at one tenth of the price, I know there are better bags with that price! But it's a classic! I can wear it forever. I can put my files for meeting, I can put my mini laptop if i want to, I can use it for travelling and Heck, I can use it to put milk bottle and pampers for my anak nanti! ANd I am buying it not because I 'feel' like it, it's celebrating another chapter of my life. I need to start somewhere, no? You should be surprised why i did not get it when I was in UK last year, that is because, I spend most (if not all) of my savings to travel around Europe! Let's just say, it was equivalent to several neverfull. But never regret a single second. :D

So yeah, that's what is in my head right now. Pretty useless come to think about it. But everyone has their selfish moments. :P Let see what happens. :)

PS: Owh, In case u misunderstood me, I don't crap money (as Chandler Bing said). Fully aware that $ doesn't come easy. Duh, thats why I have this website in the first place. Daddy always tell me, credit are only for emergencies. Not on materialistic wants. so, I save. then spend for materialistic stuff. If I can't save, I dont get. not spend then pay. :D Am I a good daughter or what? :P

Yellow!

Every sunday, an hour before I get ready for a jemputan, this is what i do, I stare and stare and stare at my Not-So-Big wardrobe. I have NOTHING to wear all the time. This is what I realise, since I wear baju kurung to work everyday, I don't really feel like wearing typical working baju kurung for jemputan. I want something fancier! But, let's face it, i can count my baju jemputan with my fingers.

So ladies, I am on a mision. I want to make baju kurung for jemputan! So as usual, when I am short of ideas, I always go to the loyal net-a-porter for ideas. And guess what, I remembered I want something with black lace. and I found it again! This time its a new arrival by Stella McCartney. I love her style. Always elegant and feminine yet structured. Pretty. Anyway, I am gonna make my baju kurung like this!!

as in, I want it to fit like this, no random bubbles or loose fitting. I am gonna mix it with black duchess satin instead of all lace. i dont want it to be full lace. it will be rather tacky. I did it once. I looked like i was from the 17th century. *cringe- memory go away* Well, people learn from mistakes. So, don't be afraid to make mistakes! That's how you learn. *random*. :)

Owh, I went to Nazmi last week. And I saw this lace, what attracted me was not the colour or the design but the price tag (lol!). It was around $200 per meter. And I kid you not, it looks like the typical $50 per meter lace. I didn't understand why it was so expensive, so i ask the saleslady to take it out for me. Then, i understand why it was expensive. It was VERY VERY SOFT. feels almost like silk. Nyaman. And, I gave a puppy dog stare to my darling, he didn't let me buy it. (Owh well, atleast I tried.)

PS: I am leaving for UK in 2 weeks for my graduation baybehhh! I can't wait!

I miss blogging. I miss sewing beads. I miss designing. Did you know when I have free time at the office, I sketch. Currently, my only solution is Swarovski Crystal. But I think it is too much for work.

But soon, I have some baju kurung siap this sunday and I cant wait to bead it! Bead it! So till then maybe.?

I wish I have more things to say. But I dont. Aku boring masa ani. And If i want to do something, I actually need to have energy to do it. And I am just not bothered to do it. EXHAUSTED.

wow, I don't know why but it feels like it has been ages since I have a full day all to myself. I don't really have time to work, study, socialise and bead! I miss sewing beads and other embellishments. I really do not want to stop doing what i did.

Here is my typical week.

A Typical Monday

6 a.m: IM Awake! (supposedly)

6.30 a.m: Finally leave my bed

6.45 a.m: Figuring out what to wear. Right now I have around 14 pasang of baju kurung suitable for work. This means i have to rotate it every 2 weeks! Eurgh. It feels like i am wearing a uniform. I should cut more baju, but I just cut 6 pasang in December! INSANE.

6.58 -7.03 a.m: Rushing all over my room, the dining area and the house. all over my house because i sometimes leave my car keys *Ngok!*, my PHONE! or my teet - teet pass (security pass).

7.15 a.m: Traffic Jam! - around Bunut area

7.30 a.m: Still in the Traffic - around Batu 1 area

7.40 a.m: STILL IN THE FREAKING TRAFFIC - around Mabuhai.

7.43 a.m: Arrived at the Level 2 Basement Parking! Hooray.

7.45 a.m: Waiting for the lift.

7.45 a.m: Yes, 7.45 (*wink wink*) Arrived at My desk In the office. Phewwwwwwhhh.

7.45 a.m until 5.30pm (earliest that we could go!): meeting, food, discussions, food, presentations, food. lunch out. then, meeting again. preparing slides. meeting. food. meeting. food. busy bee.

5.45 p.m - 8.30 p.m (this varies): Work is done! It is time to go home.

15 -20 minutes later: I AM HOME! I KNOWWW! I can't believe it took 15 freaking minutes to go home. But 45 minutes to go to the office in the morning. Sheeeeeeeeeeeessshh!

15 minutes after that: Freshen up, make-up and figuring out what to wear.

15 minutes after that: Time to go out for dinner, movies and errands. Out .

11pm: Finally home. Exhausted.

11.30pm: Online. Facebook. Email. How I met you mother. Chuck. House. TBBT.

12 a.m: Sleep.

1 minute after that: Snore. (Just to emphasise how tired I usually am.)

THAT IS MY TYPICAL MONDAY! Infact, that is my typical weekday! And here is my dilemma. Other than work and going out, I am actually doing this chartered course (Exam is on 6th of June *FUDGE*) on every other sunday, and on the other every-other-sunday I usually do my revision *eyes looking to the ceiling* (so most Sundays are basically gone).

How!!! I need to catch up with my friends! I need to catch up with my mum, my family! I still do not have any time to bead! In fact, time for myself even! I don't know how. I am always tired.

Now, you guys understand, why i can't accept any order AS YET. I am just not settled yet. I can't organise my time. I just want some time! to workout and lose weight and to bead and make beautiful baju kurung! I have so many plain baju kurung that need to be bead! So, I am looking forward to this weekend. FREE TIME!

Don't get me wrong, I love my job! I do not wish to be working at anywhere else in the world. But i just need some extra time to do whatever i want. Like bead, and designing and making dresses!

I went to Shabby Chic again.

For a few more permintaan!!! Its fun! But instead of using the hard cover folder, i made this from scratch! with some fancy velvet craft paper (kain beludu~).

This would be $25. (yup, blame the embellishments! not cheap. but gorgeoussss....)

This one opens like a book. I did it last week. 3 colours with black and white velvet paper and pink pearl.

I did this a few days ago. the occasion is on Valentine's Day. This opens infront slightly to the left. I added gold ribbon to keep the cover together. The green designs are velvet as well. With green pearl!

This act as an advice not only for you but a reminder for me too.

The credit card issue have caused quite a stir in Brunei. With regards to what i have posted previously, it is important to point out that, we need to prioritise our wants and needs. *yawn*

I love bostons. I love everything luxury and brands. well not overpriced ones. well wait, branded things are always overpriced. hmmm... well who doesnt love a nice arm candy. but this is not my point!

whenever you want to buy things, things that is not that important (i mean COME ON im sure you can live without a gucci bag), always remember, susah susah awal, senang senang kemudian. my point is... if that bag cost $1000, and u want it, SAVE! if it means $100 a month, or $500 a month. DONT SHOP ON CREDIT (credit card, loan, pinjam kawan). PRIORITISE. make a (mental) list of your wants and needs. Im sure gucci bag is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the list. But, its good to dream on it. act as a motivator. no?

I just think that, if you really want something, you should save and let it act as a motivation for you to work and everything. Unless you are, or married to, or soon to be married to, the daughter of, a millionaire! hahaha. or a crook. *cricket* SO if it means you can't save, you cant afford it in the first place. nothing wrong about that. Thats like me eyeing for a crocodile skin Birkin. (not even birkin, designer bags generally). or an ostrich skin bayswater. Its wayyyy beyond my league.

Random right. But im sure you get my drift.

Disclaimer: it is a sensitive topic. BUT bare in mind this applies to anyone disregard of your salary, allowance, wage whatever. if you have 100 a month kah, 500 a month kah, 1000 a month kah, 10 000 a month kah, know what u can afford and what you cant. its that simple. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT. wake up and smell the fresh air: IT REALLY WORKS.

It has been a while since I am here! I actually did it on purpose though. I needed to settle down with work and actually balance time with family, friends, him and myself. But now! I am back!

As u realised, I haven't really had the time to accept orders yet. But I have been beading my working clothes. some are just too plain. But nothing new for me to show. So, what my plan is to do what i did last year! Fashion! Smashion!

I do catch up with the current trend/catwalk but not as much as i want to. I remember it was around this time last year that i went to LFWE in London. I wonder when Kuala Lumpur's fashion week is on/at? Anywayssss (Trivia: the word anyways is not grammatically correct/make sense, it should be 'anyway' --> but everyone is doing it, maybe its just a slang, for shizzle, ma nizzle. got me? But then again, what am I to say about correct grammar, my grammar is down the drain - as in both english and malay. ) errr...

Anyway, i love the fashion at this time of the year, around half way through winter and almost to spring. many sheers and floral designs. and all the flowy flowy tops! Like what i found Donna Karan. If i am not mistaken, the higher end of DKNY (as my bf says it 'Dayang Ku New York') I love it how there is still some movement in this top yet it manages to hug your body. bukan macam nangka bebungkus.
i think it cost around B$2500. But, if! you know any tailor in brunei who can do this! I soooo want my baju kurung top to look like this. maybe lengthen the sleeves (Kimono-ish style sleeves). Lovely~

No I am not starting a whole new hobby. But, I did a lil bit of scrapping today...

A very very close and long term friend of mine is getting engaged this FRIDAY! heee COOONGRATULATIONS RINA!!! aku pulang excited. Anyway, she asked me for some help to decorate her folder that will be used on that day.

So, for the very first time I bought something from Shabby Chic. Pretty coool~

I usually just go in and only browse since i dont really have a reason to buy. Now, I have a reason to buy!!! ANyway, I splurged (on stickers) for the very first time. Splurge...because well usually if I want stickers it would just cost $1 each. haha di mubarak :P.

AAAAAnyway, I bought pearls and crystals stickers! the bling bling ones! and a grey scrap paper. During lunch, on a monday, masa bonus urang keluar (surprisingly inda that overcrowded...hmm), during my bf's lunch break. so yeahhh...time constraint, pusing pusing the shop, kiyal kiyal mencari~ cos i had an idea, but i didnt exactly know how it will look like. Haha.

But im surprised they had what I wanted... SO this is what I got.

After spending the afternoon, with scissors, cutter, printer... and Glee! (2nd round), here it IS!

Assalamualaikum Everyone!

Alhamdulillah! I am happy to inform you that I have been given the opportunity to bead a very beautiful solemnisation dress. It has been my dream to do this. Thank You Sur for making this happen. I shall not let you down! i will make sure you will have a fabulous FABULOUS baju nikah. I SWEAR!!!

Ok, before anything, I do not know how to take pictures! The photos I took doesnt do any justice to the dress. Anyway, it's a long dress (which was from my sketches! *excited*), its a mixture of satin, french lace and beautiful patching. Pretty.

Anyway, what I will be doing is highlighting these patchings. Since nikah baju is usually really really white, you cant really see the designs on the dress. (which is the main concern of my customer) So, what I am trying to do is to highlight the patchings and sprinkle a few hundreds of real swarovski crystals in rainbow and white. Unlike the typical highlight on baju kurung, this will be hard because, it has to be a white theme (customers requests), stick to white, pearls, silver, dark greys. so I want it to be a white theme yet have the impact of a colourful beads design! IT WILL BE FABULOUS!

Will let you guys know after it is done! For the beading of Baju Nikah, it will come in packages with fixed price which I will inform you soon in another post. soon.

Sorry for the lack of updates. It is because I had a few heavy orders. Anyway, I was in a hurry, I just used my normal camera. Thus, it drained out all the colours! :(

I am surprised how long it took to bead this baju. (hint: lama!). 4 loong daysss. But the outcome is gorgeous!! I love how the shape of the sequins shaped the small flowers.

I have to move fast cos there are quite a lot of orders coming in.

This particular customer is smart! And I would like to share it with you. I was asked to colour (w/beads :P) inside the line for this order. Something that I have only done a few times. I find this very exciting. haha. Unlike beading the usual embroideries (which is a pain to bead! because of the thick threads), this is a good tip for ppl who like embroideries with manik. Because, you dont actually have to 'fill in-the flowers or leaf-' with threads. In the end, it will be covered by the beads.

since the bawah and sleeves of this baju mau simple line too (double layer), it will be $40 for everything.

This customer has given me a sample for me to follow, and from what i have observed, it uses a lot of labuci. no beads. just sequins. so i had more reasons to go to kadai manik! I am especially excited for this coming project. Pasal I got hold of the 3D ribbon flowers, bright coloured beads and crystal beads! It is sooo shiny! BERKILAT!

Im planning to do the neck and sleeves but slightly simple since the beads are OTT sudah. Cos if too much mcm baju gaun kanak kanak karang. haha!

Assalamualaikum Everybody!

Ok, I dont usually upload my work before it is completely done. BUT this is an exceptional because #1 - I found a good camera that doesnt flush all the colour out and #2 - just loook at that beauty! I like how the flower turns out on the kain and how everything works together (with the different types of labuci 'sequins' and pearls) . I had an idea before i start the design, but it turns out better that i imagine! BETTER! even my mum was like, u did this? HAH!

I love how the colour is still in the same shade as the kain. the manik is not too bright. and the sprinkles of pearls was the right finishing touches.
I need to finish the sleeves first. Will post again soon.

For the very first time since I remembered, I was around Gadong during lunch time at this time of the month. which is a big NO NO for me usually, because there are no parking! overcrowded! And the weather was very mendung but really hot. EURGHHH! I know its not good to complain! so on another note~I enjoyed it too...Want to know why??

Ramai ppl form work lunch at the same place! And its so FUN to look at their baju kurung. There's the one with cuff (quite common now), gathers arah the sleeve tia, ada tali tia, ada smock around the waist tia. So pretttyy. I was staring at it. Haha. I am impressed with what people wear for work. some are stylish yet simple! some are over the top but on plain baju kurung.

COMING UP: I have 3 baju-s to bead. And one of it, is a big project which uses 3D flowers and swarovski crystal!

I mean i dont have a degree in Jewellery Designs or Diamonds (haha itll be cool if there is such thing as Phd in Diamonds), but im sure there is a finance department to control the millions from their revenues...

So according to Tiffany UK... they currently need senior analysts for international merchandising! Uuuuu~ while Tiffany US needs Lead Analysts - distributed systems, store manager (hah!), operation assistant! wow. who knew. That sure is awesome! Time to dream. Hi you guys,

Sorry for going MIA for a while. It does not give any reason for me to not blog. Its not that I have nothing to blog, in fact its the opposite! I have so many things to say that I dont even have anytime to start, sit down and type! Fashion forever!!! Haha. *out*

November has always been an important month for me. A lot of birthday of my loved ones and close friends and ofcourse favourite designers...

Emilio Pucci was born yesterday! in 1914. Did you know? Unlike most designers, he come to fashion in a different way. He was an eligible bachelor, u know, straight (:P), of an aristocrat descendent sp?, a PhD in Social Science! And an athlete! competed in the 1934 Winter Olympics! awesome right??? I know, Jackpot for girls! hahahaha! He was known as the 'style conscious Romeo' , 'The Italian Stallion'. *swoon*

Anyway, what happen was, he insisted to design for the olympics costumes. i knowww... and after the olympics, one of his gf, or was it his gf at that time~ was wearing his jacket! and their picture ended up on a magazine! I think it was Harper's Bazaar. And lets just say, that jacket, was the beginning of his fashion empire as womens start requesting that jacket! I cant find that picture online yet. But if I find it ill post it. So anyway, apparent pucci was the first person to work in his family after over a thousand year! *ka-ching*

Coool huh?? from olympics to now! Picture above: is a vintage pucci. gorgeous. the abstracts and colour. Now pucci is run by his daughter. with most recent designer, Matthew Williamson as the design director. Pucci died in 1992.

Customer wants it to be fancy. I love fancy designs. Especially on plain fabrics! The design choices are endless! And she also wanted labuci for flowers. And she also requested for the design to be according to the colour of the kain (dark grey) no colourful, so I used silver, white, and grey with a hint of blue. And ofcourse, a sprinkle of Swarovski Crystal as the finishing touches.

Just because I'm quiet doesnt mean im up to nothing.

Hi Guys! Its good to be back! Well not yet. I have an interview tomorrow morning with one of the leading audit company. *shrieks* I am nervous beyond words. Then another one in the afternoon! I had a written test a few days ago for my dream job in my dream place (nervous jua.) but glad the written test is over and got the result. =D AND another written test in 2 weeks time! The test was tiringggg. By the time im done, my brain is fried! balik tarus crash and sleep.

So yess.. I have been busy. Very busy. Its so sad that I have to cut down my designing and beads sewing time for all these. But I just have to do it. (Wouldnt it be cool if i have a tailor shop right now and just design and have ppl to sew the beads for me?) Tailor shop - one of my dreams. Jangantah brabis, start small.

OK! I beaded a few baju and made tonnes of sketches. Yo know when the idea starts pouring you just cants stop. just draw draw draw. I still have a few people that I owe sketches to. Its coming. owh and I hopefully will meet Nisaa from The AN store for some beads this saturday. I shall let you guys know.

Hello Peeps! Hows Everyone? Assalamualaikum.

Im taking a break from modifying my CV. I just spent the entire morning doing my covering letters. Hard work yaw. I just want to get a job soon. a job that i want. So far a few response. Atleast something. :)

Since being unemployed is a snoozefest, im glad I have things to sew and design! As for this blog, I have a few sketches requests (can't wait to draw!), a few baju kurung to jahit beads and a few bookings towards the end of the month. Other than that, I am busy experimenting on different style and cuttings of garments to make. So far so good. Will take picture when it is done.

As promised, here's the SUPER QUICK manik design for my baju raya that i did in 4 hours (yep, still got my mojo~ haha). Macam biasa for plain fabrics, i usually follow the designs of the skirt. Hence, the colour of the flower - blue and red and in clusters. and the cloud-like lines. The flowers are in different shapes and sizes.

I made the collar heavier and made it look like it is hanging from the silver lines. But for the bawah and sleeve I made it simple. Same flower. Should have add some swarovski crystals around it. That would be prettier.

PS: Never ever. EVER. in a million years get shiny plain fabric (like mine here). if u have the choice. EVER!! And with a boat neck. :( . just dont. I didnt have a choice. That's what happen when you come back a few days before raya. No clue what my baju raya would look like until it is finished. But still, im grateful.

Hi Guys!

Well, this is the skirt i was talking about. Mermaid style. My definition of mermaid is it is more rounded than the flat fish tail skirt. ahhh. altho, a mermaid's tail is the same as a fish tail. errr... hmm... eurghh, ull get it when I finished it! ahhh, Mcm potong payung (princess skirt) but just from your knee downwards. get it? and atas nya tight fitting. yeah I call that mermaid.

Im trying to incorporate what I have learnt in Fashion School 3 months ago, with what I understand a good skirt should look like and what I want in the skirt. So, it is cool. I have made many alterations to the patterns. So I cannot wait for it to be finished!

So, from the picture, the kain is from John Lewis, this dept store in UK. it was 6 pounds per metre (AFTER DISCOUNT before it was 10pounds? 11 pounds?). mental. and honestly, kainnya mcm satin crepe ganya and yes, mun Brunei ada satin crepe for 3 ringgit labih per metre only!

But I was desperate for kain. at that time. I want it to be couture-like. WHich means the sewmanship? is of a high quality. I havent decided what seams im gonna use. and zips. I know i should use the hidden/concealed zip for this. But gaaawwd, I hate sewing zips! concealed tah lagi! Bular mata. and I dont have the concealed zip foot for my (mum's) sewing machine.

I cant wait for my shipping to come. All my materials for my day dress are in there!

Hope everything is well. Well, for me I am enjoying my freedom! It feels good to have nothing to do. Other than, job hunting.

Anyhoots... so with my free time! I am trying to make a skirt that looks like a mermaid? and baju kurung pendek with princess seams as my project on cheap kain. did you know KOFOM has tonnes of kain 4 meters for $20. suka ku. lawa lawa lagi tu. although, theres still a chance someone wearing the same kain sooner or later. kenapa kan tu? they should cut down kain with same patterns and colours! kan? But, yeah i got that kain cos if i screw it up, inda menangis. heh.

anyway, I just started altering my patterns this morning. Couture Style~ Haha. Well, atleast from what I have learn. if u can call it couture. It will take time. so I am not going to offer my service to anyone yet. I need to practice it with my friends and families. experiment on different body shapes.

Inspiration: High End Jewellery

When I am bored, I usually browse jewellery websites. Especially Bvlgari, Cartier, De Beers and Tiffany Co. to cuci mata. Just soooo gorgeousss.. u may never know, One day...it might be my engagement ring. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAA! yeah. right. Dream big girls...dream big~~~ baiktah pakai duit untuk naik haji. *buzkill*

Picture above - My favvvv: the cushion cut. i think its also known as the legacy by tifany and co. (can go up to 500 000 pounds). the yummy cushion cut. ahhh. jangantah berabis...1 carat saja. (saja!?). The price range starts from almost 9000 pounds. So thats 20ish thousand brunei dollars. BAHAHAHA! balum lagi kawin, baru bertunang sudah labih2 and broke. As my bf said, 'dapat men deposit kereta tu.' HAHAHA. damn mun kerita damit, u can even get one. i think you can even have trip around the world for honeymoon.

Anywayyy! That is not the purpose of this post. U know how some manik designs especially for the leher are sooooooooo Beautifull that it seems like you are wearing a necklace. So, it just pop out of my mind that, why dont you follow the high end jewellery designs and use it as the bead designs on your leher.

Here are some of the 'icings' that i have found. These are statement jewelleries that cost as much as a house or even a mansion, which can only be worn (and afforded) by the queen of Brunei. Im not kidding, some cost 1 million plus pounds.

So imagine wearing the 1 million sterling pounds necklace on top of your baju kurung. ok. Now, imagine that necklace is actually bead designs on the neckline of your baju kurung. Lawa jua tuuuuu.

For example for the Tiffany and Co Rantai Below, mcm use manik for the strings and sew teardrop shape by using pink manik for the crystals. so it will give the illusion that your are wearing the necklace when actually it is a perfectly arranged beads! Prettyyy. There r some more to feast the eyes. Yummyyy....

Picture Below: De Beers, This very much reminds me of what the queen would wear. Utter awesomeness.

Picture below: Very very unique. imagine this is the bead designs on your neckline. Maybe on a navy blue chiffon with silver and light blue beads. Very modern and conspicuous sp?. You can see the contrast. Andthen you end it with some dangling manik .

TIP: To give it an extra sparkle (that diamond look), use SMALL highlight beads instead of the normal size beads. and double the lines so it becomes thicker. This will give more shine to it. Time consuming, but very 'sparkly'.

Another tip: If you have done this, try to neutralise the baju by NOT doing anything to the rest of the baju. Very understated beauty.

Another Tip: On the contrary, to the bling-blingers, sprinkle some swarovski crystal around it for the extra shine.

60s theme

Right, as requested, after doing some research, here are some sketches on baju raya in the 60s 70s.

Before I begin, from what i have found, the 60s baju is very much similar to the fashion nowadays but the difference is in terms of the fitting and length.

First one is a baju kurung labuh.

Quote from mum: "labuh banar tuuu baju kurung nya". so yeah. Before you are wondering...the difference between 60s baju kurung and the baju kurung now. baju kurung in the 60s...

#1 the fitting is loose. think baju opah that end ABOVE your knee

#2 there is a pocket (similar to pocket cara melayu) under you left boobs (bust?). (this is important)

#3 skirts - fitted and end ABOVE the ankle.

#4 the fabric used are usually transparent, labuh, and karau (stiff). so think, plain organza (not chiffon). match it with a non glossy fabric of a similar colour as the inner dress as shown in the sketches below.

#5 MUST MUST MUST adorn your baju with gold brassy brooches yang oversized. avoid the sparkly ones yg bekilat2 (thats too modern)

And ofcourse to the fashionistas, below, is the kebaya pendek.

unlike the baju kurung above, the kebaya should be

#1 veryyy short. end slightly above your hip

#2 veryy tight fitting (as my mum said - think SALOMA) lol.

#3 kebaya pendek with fold at the front for the top. (very fitted) modern ones have no fold di dapan. but kebaya in the 60s HAS FOLD.

#4 fabrics : top should be french lace type with lining of same colour

: skirt should be kain batik (not sarong - thats for nyonya type). batik should be the abstract ones mcm batik from indonesia.

#5 skirt : it should have kipas at the front. it can be at the middle or at the front of your thigh. keep it tight.

#6 and again it is all about the right accessories. go for vintage brassy oversized brooches. in fact go for the kerongsang? sp? brooches (the set of 3 brooches). prettyy...

AND THE BEST OF ALL! for both of these baju,

SEXYY SHOOESSS!!!

shorten your sleeves so it ends two inches before your wrists AND

your kain should be above your ankle! be daring. show off your ankle. by doing this, you can show off your favourite sexiest strappy sandals without looking weird cos in those times, having a short skirt is very common. infact stylish. SO TAKE OUT YOUR SEXIEST HEELS ladiesss! *matching colour*. yummy.

that would be gorgeous.

PS: in terms of fabric. it is not necessarily what i stated. it is up to you. you may even used thai silk. However, i just think thai silk is used too often and it is also too modern. Besides, since it IS a raya celebration, lace would give a more glamorous touch~

Phewhh. Watermarking everything is hardwork! hehe. Anyway here are most of the highlights picture i found that I did for the last four years.

From 1st October 2009, Highlights will be $50. This varies slightly if your pattern has more or less flowers? or designs? than the average. But most of the time, it will be $50. I shall make a price list soon in the column on the right. SO its easier for you.

Its usually a mixed of slanting lines and simple straight lines. I usually add different types of shape and sizes such as manik round, cylindrical, sequins or labuci and some studs and some swarovski crystals. this varies on different patterns and fabric.

I do offer tabur that is more close together and not as sparse as the pictures above. The price is usally twice of what you seen above (with 1 inch thickness).

However, when I received these orders of tabur, I usually have another 10 pasang of baju to do yang mau tabur too. that I have to finish in a week! so, because of that, instead of charging $70 for tabur yg rapat, I do $35 for tabur yang jarang, like seen above. It is still pretty. cos usually I add designs to it and use manik with different shape and sizes. Owh and swarovski crystals too.

PS: I prefer doing the $35 than $70 ones, cause tabur is pretty dull to sew. Mcm over and over again, it doesnt stimulate the mind. Haha. which is why i always add designs to it.

How are you people?. I can't believe we are in over a week of Ramadhan.

Sorry for not updating in the last week. Needed to finish my dissertation. Its due next month tho. but i just want to enjoy the time i have left in UK before leaving for good. Anywaaayy, My almost 23 000 words dissertation has been handed for binding a few days ago! Yaaaaaaaaayy! Berhempas pulas kali ah membuat ah. haha. I have finally (unofficially) completed my MSc! Alhamdulillah.

Now I am busy packing 4 years worth of stuff for shipping, Crazeyy. Mcm ok ani masuk mana? eh atu lagi. tapi ani buang tia kali eh? . These questions over and over again. But! we r going to london next week for 9 days for last minute shopping~~~. And Insya Allah, go back home a week before raya! I cant wait! I will be in time for the hecticness of Raya di kadai, i love it. haha. (but ofcourse, dont forget to spend more time beribadat in the last 10 days of ramadan. but what am i saying, we should ber ibadat more in the entire ramadhan. no, the entire time! haha. owh well nvm. There is a reason why im not a preacher~ <-- wait is a preacher specifically for christian? am i wrong? indakan? OMG! Oh my god this is useless. This is not a personal blog.

Look at that! The colours match the colour of this blog! :D Other than the colour, it interests me how the draping is done. so pretty and so perfect. I think its also because of the fabric. mcm using jersey. u know, it is a bit elastic? But, if u use lighter fabric like chiffon, this would be ahhmayyzingg for raya baju. Jgntah bermanik! Haha. cant believe i just said that. But truuee.

This baju is made by Emanuel Ungaro. I just have a soft spot for emanuel ungaro same as zuhair murad. Their ideas are always brilliant! I remember i had a sketching last year to make a baju like this, but it didnt turn out well. Payah bah the tailor nowadays. well, not generally. specifically my tailor. He makes amazing kurung, baju fesyen AND transparent lace, But drape here and there. nope. no good.

And I like the fact that the sleeve are in different colours too. Purrtyy~

So something I want to try and make in the near future. This would be a great project!

Hi Guys..

Busy for the next two weeks. Work is due in 15 days. aaaaaaaaa...! I just made 241 financial regressions in a day! Gaawdddd. BUT! No worries! I'll be in Brunei in 4 weeks! For good. Its a bittersweet feeling. I'm gonna miss eveything. :(.

Well, I'll start to offer my beading AFTER Raya (sorry). Around 1st of October 2009. And I will put up some pictures on the beadworks that I have done. Price, Bestsellers and everything~.

Look at THAT!

Look at this cute silk dress by PREEN. The cutting were kept simple. But the colours are owh so pretty~. I want to do something like this once im back. It would be called PROJECT: RAINBOW! Haha Reminds me fof those figure skating costumes. Noooo, it reminds me of PADDLE POP ice cream!

I would definitely wear this. BUT TOO SEXAAY. Instead of using the nude mesh, maybe cover it with nude coloured silk. Gorgeous. with a pair of Nude Pigalle (by Xtian Louboutin). mmmmm. Yummy.

Owh guess what! Dissertation wise: Im done with my lit review and almost done with methodology. Only my analysis left! :) Yippee! 8000 words to go~

Assalamualaikum. How are you today? Im alright. Heading off to uni later. haha. awu inda pandai abis. uni uni uni. during summer lagi tu. ish.

Okay, Hari Raya is coming! Well, for the last four years i would have been busy sewing beads. Life wouldve been hectic. I miss it so so much. This year I can't do it! I will be back for good, Insya Allah, by mid september only, a few days before Raya.

Anyhoots, a few weeks back, after browsing through beading website, I saw this! I t is called Butterfly Beads. It is based in Malaysia. But I fell in love with her beadworks. Especially how she played around with the sequins. It is very different and unique! Love it. She mixed different shape and sizes in an outfit and made it perfectly. To those who are interested, please do email her at balqiz_82@yahoo.com. I am not sure if she's still accepting for Raya. Do give it a try.

Memoirs of a Fashion Student - Final Day

Sorry for the late post. Once I was back from london, I went straight to my literature review for my dissertation which is due this sept. Haha. One day fashion, next day finance. it felt weird. Anyhoots, I'm done with lit review, now its data collection phase! (phewwh!)

Picture Above: Nice?? look at my waist~ Well it's nothing but look how it is defined...The finished product (in a fabric called calico - for practice- which is why it is stiff and karau)! Well, I havent done the hem of the sleeves and the bottom (the dress and the sleeves will be slightly shorter).

Anyway, It follows the figure around my bust then followed with pleats (I know how to make pleats!).

WHat I did was, add pleats for movement and sleeves to a conventional shift dress. Owh and made it A-line cause i am pear shaped. Usually it has no sleeves. But, quote: it's pretty well executed! YAY! Haha. If I used thick cream coloured wool, and add black buttons, it would definitely look like a Chanel inspired dress. Kan kan kan. All i need is a quilted black and white pumps and a 2.55. Voila! HAHA. HOWEVER, If I want to be able to wear it in Brunei, Ill make it cream (crepe -thinner fabric) and inside my pleats, black! Gorgeous! SO when i move, you can see black stripes. And the fabric will make the dress stick to my body better.

Picture Above: The marilyn monroe inspired dress I was telling you. Made by my friend. So simple, he finished a few hours earlier than me! I will definitely try that (Bah, models get ready!)

Anywaaay,

On the final day, I had my final fitting after everything is adjusted, my hem for sleeves, levelling (in couture, for dresses you must level it to the ground so it looks straight, instead of following the hem of the dress. so cool. they have this special ruler, a gigantic 90degrees triangle ruler), then hem of the bottom of my sleeves.

Well, it was a less hectic day. So, while we were sewing (our hems - hand sewn), we asked a few questions to my tutor. This is what we found out:

He designed our course! (usually, this course was done by another tutor). SO yay! lucky us.
The best method of sewing is by hand because it has no tension given by a sewing machine.
There is only one person in United Kingdom that hand sew a suit. ONLY ONE. It takes her 3 months to finish it and cost around 25000. Our tutor estimated that it would increase to 35000 in 10 years because of its rarity.
Couture - in UK, from his experience (our tutor works in or have -not sure- a couture house in London); couture garments start from 500pounds to 25000 pounds.
It is expensive not because how it is sewn, seams etc, but due to the accurate fitting of the garment to the body.
He works for Liberty Dept Store (Gorgeous dept store - aku suka dalamnya. And tudungnya :P) , then he also worked in nicole farhi. Awesomee...
He said - he would never want to see our work on topshop. because it is predictable and boring and low quality.
He said - Mrs M&S (mark and spencers) are boring. colours are dull.
He said - couture made by ourself is better even than dior (!!!), because any readymade garments follows a pre-specified body measurement and height!

Not only because my butt is big (haha!) but the calico is a thick, stiff, rough fabric. Ignore that, once i use crepe ill have a small butt. BWAHAHA! Bootaayy.

Thats about it you guys! Im back to work. SO to those of you who are interested in the fashion industry and needs introduction to professional fitting, and will be around in london around this time next year. Should definitely try it. Its by London College of Fashion and it cost around 400 pounds.

Next plan: Once I am back, other than the beadings, I am planning to experiment different designs that I have on different shape and sizes. Insya Allah. Will talk about it next time!

Today, we continue doing our own project.

For me its zip, sleeves, and gathers.

I did my zip (Payahhhhhh), we were taught to do invisible zip, conventional zip, trouzers zip. Zips are nasty. My eyes were glued on the needle of the sewing machine saja, have to give 110% concentration and have to be sooooooooo slow.

Picture below: By the end of the day, I completed most of my sewing parts. Except bias tape and hemming. That I will do Tomorrow. Owh and we did couture fittings too. Well thats what i call it. You know the part where you sew everything together and see di mana yg loose and pin it, then sew it again. You know, refitting. supaya PERFECT. It reminds mcm in the movie, masa fitting bridal gowns, ada jarum here and there.

Picture Below: How cool are my pockets! Payah tu ahhh. :P Seriously, never underestimate the IQ level of your tailor. They are skilled and gifted. There are so many arithmetic and geometry required in making a garment. I was gobsmack. Especially, perpendicular, 90 degrees, 45 degrees, 1.5cm seam allowance tia, but put 2cm, 6mm tia. It is even more important when you are altering a pattern. Have to be precise if not the seam wont fit together! Anyway, about this pocket, it is so impressive (its not really ONLY me, i did it with proper instructions and supervision of our strict -my way is the best- teacher) that when i let go of my finger you dont see the pocket as if the seam is sewn together.

Picture below: After done with sewing I have to deal with my zipper. So back to the workroom. SO it will be bang in the middle and perfect. I have to pin, then jahit tangan THEN sew. But I love the end product.
Picture below: Ignore the blue chalk. hehe. salah label. Look at the shoulders, the plus sign seams! and the gathers on the sleeve! I did that! Alhamdulillah. Awal awal I was like, what the hell am I doing. Especially sleeves! my dress was all over the sewing machine! Mcm kemana kan tujunya niii?? Hahaha! Apparently, this is how a couture seam looks like. Basically, neat, flat, barely there seams.
If we did wrong, this is what he will say " ahhh, the home made look....no no no...you must do this..." or " ahhh, you can get this in the high street, but you dont want that...".

I can't wait for my dress to be done!! Well I obviously can't wear it because it is made of toile. BUT it is good practice.

PS: A freind of mine is doing a dress which is similar to marilyn monroe dress. you know the one with the wind. Was it red in colour? Lawa. And surprisingly easy. Many gatherings needed. Tomorrow is the last day! :( I'm having so much fun. Dont want it to end.

Today, its sewing. I dont really want to put borinng post. So I'll just share with you, the cool stuff i learn today.

Below: Our sewing room! Theres only 11 of us. So there were more than enough. The sewing machines are the heavy duty ones and you lift the foot with your knees (sewing jargons).

Picture below: My baby! In the morning, we were ask to practise with scrap materials. Haha. I couldnt control it, Lajuu bahh.
The dress form I was talking about in the previous posts. There are several in our work room. This is also where our teacher showed the curves and how to do darts and stuff.
And you can't see it from the pictures, we were taught how to press, you know for kipas on kain, seams, trousers or pleats on kain apa. Tips to get the perfect crispy line on trousers! Clue: Ironing it is not enough!

Guess what my dress is? A Coco Chanel Inspired Shift Dress! With sleeves! SO dapat pakai brunei. Inda seksayy! Haha. Today I did my front and back and pockets! of my dress.

Today its the A to Z of sewing patterns. By taking this class, It feels that some mysteries in life have been answered! Haha. Banar!

For example, misalnya why if skirt when it is at first worn below your waist then after jalan jalan it has shifted to somewhere above your waist. Answered! Or why when seluar lunggar, you cant just trim the sides. Answered! or why sometimes baju kurung after alterations masih jua lunggar tia (arah parut labu tia.) AND!! the best of all, why bila kami pakai skirt (very relevant to pure silk baju kurung), kalau duduk, its kumuh at the side arah the crotch area (my point is every kumuh at different places will explain a misfit somewhere. SO COOL). Answered! or why is it despite an accurate measurement, say of a trousers, when you sit, sampit jua and nampak your behind. You know the simple things that you dont really know before.

We were taught how the body measurement should be applied to the patterns with regards to actual body shape. And how to alter the patterns without ruining the shape of the final garment. Trust me I need this, Cos I am petite! Banyak putung sana sini, tambah dart sana sini. Kadang kadang for me, If say my kain yg putung payung, like a princess cut too long, sudah altered, no longer kambang. U know those problems. SOLVED!

The things I learn today:

Different professional methods to transfer information accurately

How to alter a pattern to fit your body (from a 3D angle)

How to cut accurately from a pattern on to a cloth.

Today our teacher (who apparently has his own couture clientele) said if you want to do something, even if its hard, you will succeed. Impressive huh. So wise.

Ok I wont bore you. Basically, How to cut fabrics the right way! Which also includes how to prepare the different type of fabrics before cutting it.

It may sound simple, but its easier said than done! OMG. The tackinggg. The concentration I need to give, very tiring.

I love every minute of it!

I think once im back in Brunei, Im gonna practise making clothes as many times as possible and once im confident with my work, it is then, i will open offer this service. Start small, just like Armani and Levi's. Heh heh.

Memoirs of a Fashion Student - Day 1

Timing was perfect. I reached the campus on time. Then, we were asked to wait at the canteen (more like a room with vending machines) until our course is called. Then we were showed to our class. It reminds me of dance studios with islands of sewing tables.

SInce its a summer course, it is an intensive 5 days course (they do offer during term time but its once a week for 2 hours - not recommended). Some of the things I have learned

-even with same size; diff age has diff shape.

-by understanding the lifestyle of a customer, you will know what her style will be and what colour she wears

- a 9.99pound dress looks different than a 2009.99 dress.

- how to be unique and be inspired

- how the mrket conditions affect fashion (its soo awesome) - his observation is so truee.

- how to work with diff types of patterns

- how to get the best look for an outfit from fabrics (how to not make u look fat!)

- the best of all ---> professional tip every step of the way

Studied all this in a day! Hectic! The class is very practical. We spent most of the day pinning and cutting. We were given calico, the first step in designing. using cheap cloth for design. (U usually see this in Project runway, where they used this fabric before designing the actual final fabric).

Owh and my fellow 'classmates' are sooo interesting. Talk about it soon.
